Municipal Judge recruitment for the City of Mt. Angel

The City of Mt. Angel is soliciting letters of interest for Municipal Judge services.  Mt. Angel is located 13 miles northeast of Salem and 4 miles north of Silverton.  The city’s Municipal Court meets every other month during the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.  The court docket typically involves 30 cases per court session and issues that come before the court typically involve traffic citations and a few City Ordinances.  The court is supported by a part-time Court Clerk.

Letters of interest should include requested compensation, conditions, discussion of relevant experience and resume.  The Municipal Judge reports directly to the Mt. Angel City Council who will make the appointment and may choose to interview candidates.

Recruiting for Court-Appointed Attorney Roster

The Salem Municipal Court is recruiting to add one or two criminal defense attorneys to our current roster.  Court-appointed attorneys are appointed by the judge to represent the indigent accused in our court. Deadline for applying is October 31, 2014.Our current case-mix is fairly evenly divided between traffic crimes and non-traffic “quality of life” offenses such as Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Alcohol in Prohibited Places, etc. Many of the individuals appearing in our court are struggling with homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, co-occurring disorders, and/or issues related to military service. Experience relevant to this population is desirable. Bi-lingual attorneys also are encouraged to apply.

  • jury trial experience;
  • work in problem-solving court dockets (such as Veterans Court, Mental Health Court, Drug Court, etc.);
  • non-legal, but relevant educational, employment, or personal background; and,
