Back by popular demand, Mary Leonard Law Society will be hosting a Monte Carlo Casino Night for our 6th annual spring charity event. Guests will enjoy wine and beer from local producers and hors d’oeuvres while trying their hands at craps, roulette, poker, and black jack. Community supporters will provide a wide array of silent-auction items, and representatives of our featured charity will be on hand to talk about their important work. The annual Mary Leonard Law Society Spring Ethics CLE will be on the topic of technology and your ethical responsibilities while using it. Join us in welcoming presenters David Madden, Intellectual Property lawyer with Mersenne Law LLC ; Sheila Blackford, Practice Management Advisor with the Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund; and Amber Bevacque-Lynott, Assistant Disciplinary Counsel for the Oregon State Bar. 1 Ethics CLE credit pending.

MLLS Lunchtime CLEs are $15 for OWLS members; $20 for non-OWLS members; $10 for Judicial Clerks; and free to students, WUCL staff and professors, and to those not seeking CLE credit.

March 14th, 3:00pm – Celebration of Life & 75th Birthday for Judge Albin Norblad

Judge Norblad’s colleagues on the Marion County bench will hold a public memorial on March 14, 2014, at the Marion County Courthouse, 100 High Street, Salem OR 97301. The service will begin at 3:00pm in Courtroom 2A.

A reception hosted by the Marion County Bar Association will follow across the street at the Grand Ballroom. There will be a microphone available so that attendees may share their stories of Judge Norblad. The event will be catered by Adams Rib. Wine will be donated from bar members’ cellars and a no-host bar will be available.

The Marion County Annex and Juvenile Court will be closed for the afternoon beginning at 2:30 to allow staff and judges time to get to the courthouse by 3pm. The downtown offices will close at 3pm. All offices will be closed until 5pm.

Attendees are encouraged to wear jeans and dress shirts in honor of Judge Norblad. Donations are still being accepted and will be accepted at this event.

Mary Leonard Law Society will join with Willamette University in March to present a panel discussion on human trafficking and on-the-ground efforts that are being taken to combat this serious violation of human rights. Panelists include Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Horsley, FBI Victim Specialist Shannon Meyer, Joel Shapiro of Shared Hope International, Tana Rogers of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, Immigration lawyer Chanpone Sinlapasai of Marandas & McClellan LLC, and Gwynne Skinner from Willamette University’s International Human and Refugee Rights Clinic.
